Missing Sunsets.

“ I saw sunset yesterday from my terrace and I was wondering how beautiful it is. Just watching a sky full of stars and moon, the rising/setting sun just calms me down and I still ignore them on most days, Does that happen to you too ?”

Some days back, all out of ideas, someone said this to me and it got me thinking how strangely accurate it was, like how we miss small things in our life and ignore them when they are just right in front of us. Whether it’s people, our own peace, or anything.

I went to the terrace today to see the sunset, to feel the sky splitting onto different tinges of color and then going into darkness. How weirdly calming it is honestly ? The dynamic changes and still beautiful. It got me thinking to the part that we detest changes and don’t wanna step out and just ignore the basic things around us, giving account of work hours or procrastination. So is it like are we too busy to live our life?

Ask anyone, how they are doing, and the first reply would be “We have been busy but hopefully will take a time off to make things better”. It does give the illusion of productivity which might feel comforting but isn’t that just a risk? It’s more like we want to be busy and ignore things because we don’t want to stop and actually think what we want. I am not sure about others, but with me honestly using “crazy busy” gives a fake reassurance to me that I might be doing something productive and missing calming and beautiful things like sunsets.

It’s like I have time anxiety, thinking that there is never enough time, but just like I don’t get to feel the same water wave twice, if I am too busy to enjoy it, when will I do it again? After 10 years? Or when I get married as per the elders say? To wait for someone to feel free ?

The problem is we usually don’t even take the time to consider the alternative, which is that we’re numbing our minds with work. Being busy with exciting work is good. Being too busy to enjoy life, spending time with the people you love, and exploring your full potential is not. If you belong to the people who do have a choice, consider making the most of your fortunate situation.
